Alyssa Monks is one of the formost emerging contemporary artists in America today. Her paintings are often presented as faces behind sheets of water, whether it be steamy shower door, or within a pool of tranquility.
"You see the leaf on that tree over there? It’s gonna fall eventually. Do you rush the leaves to fall? No. You can cut the tree down if you want to, but it’s just a fucking leaf, and the leaf makes that tree beautiful. Cutting it down is stupid. Once the leaf falls, it falls peacefully and it crumbles away, and though no one in a year will know that the leaf fell, that leaf made the tree beautiful at one point. I’m gonna die eventually. I’m like that leaf. I am a beautiful person who made this world beautiful at one point, even though no one knows me anymore. Don’t rush anything. Just live in the moment knowing that you made this world beautiful, even if no one else thought so."
